Column Repairs

The vessel/column has historically suffered from breakdown of the internal lining.

Nature of defect

The above vessel / column has historically suffered from breakdown of the internal lining. This breakdown has previously resulted in Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) of the columns. The purpose of the composite repair is to mitigate against any future SCC that could result in a through wall leaking defect.

Solution

Metalyte Pipeworks solution was to apply 6 layers of their bespoke field applied composite system. This would help reduce any future SCC on the welds.

Repair Method

The areas of repair were shot blasted to Sa 2.5 to remove all corrosion and gain the surface profile required for the composite to adhere to.
The substrate then had a resin bond coat applied prior to the application of the composite. The line was then wrapped in 6 layers of composite and allowed to cure.
