24″ LEAKING BURIED CRUDE OIL LINE

The 24” line buried 10 metres below the ground, had suffered from external corrosion which led to a through wall defect.

NATURE OF DEFECT

The 24” line buried 10 metres below the ground, had suffered from external corrosion which led to a through wall defect. The client required a clamp application to seal the leak and an engineered composite overwrap to bring the line back up to its full design specification.

SOLUTION

Metalyte Pipeworks produced a repair method using Herculyte epoxies and sealants to inject the clamp sealing the leak and applied 60 layers of Drag- on-QUAD UHT composite system.

REPAIR METHOD

Sealants were injected into the clamp to fully arrest the leak and the substrate was prepared by shot blasting to gain a surface profile to SSP.SP11. The clamp was profiled accordingly allowing for an effective application of the composite.
