NATURE OF DEFECT
The heat exchanger was subjected to thermal cycling that caused a crack to appear at the edge of the expansion joint. The client requested a leak seal to allow them to avoid a total plant shutdown. This line was operation critical and therefore Metalyte had to work on the line live.
SOLUTION
Metalyte Pipeworks technical team developed a repair method using Titan 505 injectable sealant system. 500 microns of Dragon resin was to be applied and sixteen layers of Dragon-Q-UHT overwrap.
REPAIR METHOD
The technicians got to the worksite and started the Titan 505 leak sealing process. The repair was then injected to gain control over the leak and further injection ports were installed to push the sealant around the original leak region.
