Nature of Defect
The cooling water line has suffered from severe external corrosion. This has resulted in a through-wall leaking defect at the 12 o’clock position on the pipe. The leak was temporarily plugged with a wooden spike in an attempt to seal the leak. The pipe is surrounded by concrete on the underside up to its first 3rd. This means that only a patch repair is possible as the full circumference is not exposed.
Solution
Metalyte Pipeworks sealed the leak live using their bespoke Titan 505 system which was then over wrapped with 10 layers of their field applied Dragon composite system. The repair was finished using a two part protective coating.
Repair Method
The required repair area of the line was measured out and the bitumen coating removed. The area was then mechanically prepped to SSP.SP11 to remove all corrosion and gain the surface profile required for the composite to adhere to. The technicians then applied the Titan 505 system to seal the leak coming through the wooden spike. 10 layers of the Engineered Dragon composite system was applied and cured. This was covered with a two part protective coating.
