8” and 10” Nozzles Off Main Line

8” and 10” nozzles had suffered from internal erosion.

NATURE OF DEFECT

8” and 10” nozzles had suffered from internal erosion. This has resulted in internal wall loss. The client requires a composite repair to add strength and integrity and bring the line back up to its full design specification. There are 3 nozzles to repair in total.

SOLUTION

Metalyte Pipeworks have design the repair on a 50mm circular through wall defect at the end of design life. Metalyte have produced a repair method with a minimum overwrap of 6 layers of Dragon Q-UHT composite system.

REPAIR METHOD

The surface was prepared using an MBX machine to gain a surface profile to SSP.SP11. A minimum of 500 microns of Dragon resin were applied as a bonding coat to the entire repair area prior to applica- tion of the Dragon composite. The repair area was wrapped in 6 layers of Engineered Dragon Q-UHT composite. The composite repair was cured until a minimum of 74.5 “Shore D” hardness was achieved.
