The 8” seawater tee has suffered from internal erosion resulting to a circumferential weld crack.
Nature of Defect
The 8” seawater tee has suffered from internal erosion resulting to a circumferential weld crack. Inspection reports show multiple consecutive pinhole leaks along the weld. The client required a composite repair to seal the leak without the need to shut down, and reinforce the integrity of
the line until the spool is replaced.
Solution
Metalyte Pipeworks used their bespoke Titan 505 system to seal the leak. An engineered overwrap was then applied to allow the platform to run until the next planned shutdown.
Repair Method
The full length of the repair area was prepped to remove all surface contaminants and gain the surface profile required for the composite systems to adhere to. The Titan 505 system was then applied to seal the leak. The engineered composite was then applied over the full required repair area. Once cured, the repair was coated in 2 layers of UV protective coating.
