2 x 10″ Cooling Water Lines

The 2 x 10” lines had suffered from external corrosion

NATURE OF DEFECT

The 2 x 10” lines had suffered from external corrosion. This had resulted in widespread corrosion and wall loss. The client requires 2 composite repairs to halt the corrosion and bring the lines back up to their full design specification.

SOLUTION

Metalyte Pipeworks produced a repair method using Herculyte epoxies to repair the defects with a minimum overwrap of 4 layers of Dragon Q-STD composite system.

REPAIR METHOD

The substrate was prepared (excluding the identified defect area) using an MBX machine to gain a surface profile to SSP.SP11 with a surface roughness of 55 microns. Surface defects within the immediate repair area was repaired and the geometry of the line fully restored to its original OD using Herculyte resins and the flanges were profiled accordingly. A minimum of 500 microns of Dragon resin was applied as a bonding coat to the entire repair area prior to application of the Dragon composite. The repair area was wrapped in 4 layers of Engineered Dragon Q-STD composite and cured until a minimum of 74.5 “Shore D” hardness was achieved.
